LM Studio Tools Explained: Give Your Local LLM Live Internet Access

Published 23/06/2026

Description

In this video, I show how to give a local LLM live access to up-to-date information by using tools inside LM Studio. One of the biggest limitations of large language models is their knowledge cut-off date. A model may know historical events like what happened on 88 or 99 May 19451945, but it often cannot answer questions about what happened today. That is where LM Studio tools and MCP servers come in. Enable tool support in LM Studio. Verify the prerequisites, including Node.js and npxnpx. Choose a model that supports tools. Configure an mcp.jsonmcp.json file. Add the Playwright MCP server to browse live websites like Euronews or Reuters. Use tool permissions such as Ask Before Running and Always Allow. Install another MCP server, Ticker, to retrieve live model status and API pricing. Combine a remote model with locally running MCP tools. I also show that LM Studio is much more than a simple GUI. With MCP integrations, you can connect your local model to browsers, APIs, pricing tools, and many other external services. That means your LLM can go beyond static training data and work with live information in real time. Topics covered in this video include LM Studio, MCP, Playwright, Ticker, Gemma tool−capablemodelstool−capablemodels, Node.js, local AI, remote inference, and live web access from a local LLM. If you enjoy practical videos about local AI, LM Studio, MCP servers, self-hosted models, and technical deep dives, consider subscribing and leaving a comment with the MCP server you want to test next. #LMStudio #LocalLLM #MCP Follow me on X: https://l.samayas.eu/jo3eaYEf3E?P=YT&V=125 Buy me a Coffee : https://l.samayas.eu
